Filling, sanding, caulking and priming. Paint never hides poor prep, so Mark does not skip it.

Not sure what shade to go for? Mark will tell you honestly what will work in your room, which whites are actually white, and where a bold wall earns its keep.

The method

Good decorating is mostly preparation.

    Protect.

    Floors covered, furniture wrapped, sockets masked. Your home stays your home.

  2. 02

    Prepare.

    Washing down, filling and sanding. The unglamorous work that makes paint look good.

  3. 03

    Prime.

    The right base coat for the surface, whether that is bare plaster, old gloss or new timber.

  4. 04

    Paint.

    Quality trade paints, applied properly, with the number of coats the job actually needs.

  5. 05

    Perfect.

    A final walk round. Snags sorted before Mark calls it finished.
